Use:
This test is used to help in the diagnosis of past infection/ exposure to roseola, a common viral infection in young children that may cause high fever and a rash. This test may also be useful in the diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome.
Most people have been infected by the Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) by the age of two. This infection lays dormant until it is reactivated in adulthood and often does not show any symptoms.
During the acute episode an elevated IgM HHV-6 is useful. An increase in IgG HHV-6 between acute and convalescent serum sample is consistent with a recent HHV-6 infection.
Recommended For:
Those who may experience symptoms such as chronic fatigue and sudden fever similar to that of the mononucleosis (Mono) illness; Adults who have been exposed to roseola as children.
Special Notes:
No special preparation is necessary prior to blood sample collection.
