Microalbumin, Random Urine Test (without Creatinine)

* This is not a home test kit. You will need to visit a local lab for testing.

What Is the Purpose of the Microalbumin Urine Test

There are some early warning signs that you have kidney disease if you’re living with diabetes. Your metabolism may slow down, causing weight gain, sleep disruption (which isn’t helped by the urge to urinate more frequently at night), and even changes to your nails’ color or texture. But the surest, earliest sign of impaired kidney function is albumin in your urine. This protein is manufactured by the liver to prevent fluid leakage in the blood vessels and circulate hormones, enzymes, and other substances throughout the body. Albumin in the urine is a sign that your kidneys can’t retain the albumin that your body needs, and that can lead to a build-up of fluid. A microalbumin lab test is key for early detection and treatment of kidney disease.

What Does the Urine Microalbumin Test Measure?

This test measures the small particles of albumin, or microalbumin, that may be in your urine.

Who Should Take a Microalbumin Lab Test?

You may want to get a microalbumin urine test as a proactive step to spot kidney damage early, or your physician may recommend it to monitor your health on a regular basis.

Microalbumin Urine Lab Test Preparation

You don’t need to fast prior to taking the urine microalbumin test. You will need to pick up a sterile collection container from your lab if you are testing over a 24-hour period. You start by urinating normally at 8 a.m., then collect all your urine in the container throughout the day, ending with your last sample at 8 a.m. the next day. Then you’ll take the container to the lab for testing.

Microalbumin Random Urine Test Without Creatinine Results

The normal microalbumin urine lab test level is less than 30mg. Results above that level could signal kidney damage, which may require follow-up for further testing or starting a treatment plan. If you need help, we’re here for you; contact Personalabs to set up a telehealth appointment with one of our expert physicians.
