Use:
Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) is an enzyme produced by the liver. AST was formerly known as Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase. AST has origins in many organs. When an increased AST is from the liver, it is more likely to relate to disease of the hepatocyte (liver cell).SGOT/AST is an enzyme produced in the liver. Levels are elevated in case of liver cell damage which makes it a sensitive marker for assessment of hepatic function in hepatitis, jaundice, etc.
