Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections transmitted through sexual activities be it vaginal, oral, or anal sex. They are pretty common in the US and can get complicated if not detected soon enough. Some of the most prevalent STDs are chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital herpes, human papillomavirus (HPV), syphilis, trichomoniasis, hepatitis B, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.
Symptoms of STDs vary depending on the bacteria, virus, or fungi that cause them. However, there are infections that can be transmitted and show little to no symptoms. In this case, the infected individual becomes a carrier and the STD will continue to spread. You may be putting your partner at risk for a more serious immune response against the infection.
But if regular STD testing is undergone, treatment can be prescribed and the transmission can be halted leading to healthy and safe sex life.
