This test measures the levels of albumin in the urine and is useful in managing patients who are in the early stages of Diabetes in order to avoid or delay diabetic renal disease. This test also is used to detect early kidney disease or other risk factors such as high blood pressure in patients with diabetes.
Those who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes should get tested annually; Those who have been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes should get tested 5 years after diagnosis.
No special preparation is necessary prior to sample collection.
