The Role of Fertility Testing

Getting pregnant isn’t easy for everyone: one in eight couples experience problems when it comes to conceiving or sustaining a pregnancy. Infertility comes with many challenges, and one of the primary frustrations occurs when you don’t know why you can’t get pregnant. Fertility lab tests can help give you the clarity you need to move forward in your journey.

And once you experience pregnancy symptoms, taking the most accurate test will give you peace of mind. When you finally get your big fat positive (BFP) result, the next goal is to keep you and your baby healthy. Prenatal testing can help you get ahead of any potential health issues.

Personalabs offers a range of fertility blood work tests as part of our comprehensive selection of women’s health tests. Infertility struggles are stressful, and we want to take away some of your stress with our streamlined ordering process. Choose the test you want online, download the lab order, and take it to one of our 4,000-plus partner facilities for easy fertility tests near you. The results are typically available in your secure Personalabs portal within 24 to 48 hours.

Types of Lab Tests for Fertility

Infertility is caused by different factors. Among women, infertility can be linked with hormonal imbalance, thyroid disease, anatomical defects, and conditions like PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and endometriosis. You may want to try some of our hormone tests for women or thyroid function tests.

Male infertility, on the other hand, can be due to low sperm count, erectile dysfunction, and hormonal problems. A fertility profile blood test and hormone screening can detect fertility issues to help you conceive.

Once you get pregnant, you can also monitor your hormone levels and order standard blood work usually performed during the first trimester. With all of our labs for fertility, you can share results with your obstetrician, or you can schedule a telemedicine appointment with one of our board-certified physicians.

Who Should Get Tested for Infertility

Fertility testing may be done if you have been trying to conceive for at least a year without success (or six months if you’re older than 35). Women with a history of PCOS or irregular periods, or men who have issues with ejaculation, may also want to undergo testing for these physiological issues.

When To Do Fertility Blood Tests

Some people choose to take fertility tests to track their hormone levels from month to month. For others, a physician may recommend certain tests to rule out causes of infertility or to keep tabs on a pregnancy in the early stages.
